A fifth of Immigrants in Canada arrived from India in 2019

25 per cent of new immigrants originated in India India remains Canada’s number one source country for newcomers. Approximately 86,000 Indians who have become permanent residents in 2019 accounted for 25% of all new comers to Canada. China was a distant second, accounting for 9 percent of newcomers, followed by the Philippines, accounting for 8 percent of new immigrants. Nigeria, the United States of America, Pakistan, Syria, Eritrea, South Korea and Iran have rounded out the top 10 source countries. India ranks number one India accounted for 25 per cent of Canada’s 341,000 welcome immigrants. In recent years the Indian share of immigrants to Canada has increased significantly. As of 2015, India accounted for 14 per cent of immigrants to Canada. India is probably the leading source country of immigrants to Canada for the following reasons. It also has a large middle-class population with a high level of English language proficiency and education, who also have professional backgrounds that meet Canada’s criteria for the selection of immigrants. Indian nationals are the majority of applicants under the H1-B Temporary Skilled Worker Program in the United States. The approval rates for the H1- B visa program has decreased under the administration of President Donald Trump. This led to Indian nationals living in the U.S. electing to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

‘Global Talent Visa’ Program for the UK

Boris Johnson’s government has introduced its plan to forego the ‘exceptional talent’ visa scheme introducing the new ‘Global Talent Visa’ program. The initial ‘exceptional talent’ visa scheme held a cap of 2,000 applicants. However, the requirement was never accomplished. The new ‘Global Talent Visa’ program eliminates the cap on foreign nationals and double funding for new PhD’s.[…..]

New skilled regional visas for Australia

The new Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional(Provisional) visa (subclass 494) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) have started on 16 November 2019.
