| Canada
One of the largest and most beautiful countries
in the world, Canada is the ideal place to live
and work because of its quality of living, education,
income levels, health care system and a relatively
safe and clean environment. Canada has a highly
developed economy and is the largest trading
partner of the United States. Its unending coasts,
vast forests, mountain ranges, lakes and the
prairies, have bestowed upon Canada an abundance
of natural resources which is a major factor
contributing to its prosperity.
A land of vast distances and
rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing
dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the
British crown. Economically and technologically
the nation has developed in parallel with the
US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified
border. Its paramount political problem continues
to be the relationship of the province of Quebec,
with its French-speaking residents and unique
culture, to the remainder of the country.
The Canadian government welcomes
immigrants from all parts of the world on a
fair basis and without any discrimination whatsoever.
Canada also allows its citizen to have a dual
nationality thereby letting a person hold a
Canadian passport as well as one issued by his
country of origin. An underlying thread of multiculturism
gives the Canadian society a unique flavour
of its own.
All Canadian citizens have
the right to universal health care, social services
and free primary and secondary school education.
A 1997 survey of people in 20 countries found
that the majority placed Canada on top of a
list of the ten countries where they would like
to live. Most consider Canada a generous, peaceful
and compassionate nation, while they see Canadians
as honest, friendly and polite.
Canada Immigration
Every year, Canada welcomes
thousands of new residents. Coming to Canada
as an immigrant is an exciting opportunity,
but also a great challenge. Canada offers many
opportunities for new immigrants. Taking advantage
of these opportunities often depends on finding
work, which can be a challenge. The Government
of Canada is taking steps to break down barriers
that make it difficult for immigrants to enter
the labour market.
The barriers some newcomers
face include:
- Non-recognition of international
credentials and work experience
- Lack of Canadian work experience
- Inability to communicate
in English or French
- Insufficient labour market
information prior to immigrating to Canada
