Partner Migrants
Australia encourages the reunion
of couples in genuine relationships. The Partner
Migration Program enables Australian citizens
and permanent residents, and Eligible New Zealand
citizens to sponsor their partner (spouse, fiancé
or defacto partner) to migrate to Australia.
To be eligible for Partner
Migration, you must either be married, engaged
to, or in a defacto (common law) relationship
with an Australian citizen, permanent resident
or eligible New Zealand citizen.
If your application for an
interdependent partner or spouse visa is successful,
you will be granted a provisional visa for two
years. After this period, you will be assessed
for permanent residency in Australia.
Partner applications can be
made by the spouse (married or de facto). In
each case, you must be sponsored or nominated
by your partner. Applicants for spouse or interdependent
visas must satisfy the Department of Immigration
and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) that the relationship
is genuine and continuing, and applicants for
fiancé visas must be able to prove that
they will marry their partner in Australia,
within 9 months of the visa being granted.
